Watery
eyes, Tired, Itching, Headachy, Coughing, Wheezing,
Breathless, Depressed, Stuffed up, Can't Concentrate? |
This shocking realization came about almost by accident as a result of illnesses from “sick building syndrome” uncovered a few years ago.
Studies show that the air in our homes can be as much as 100 times more polluted than the air outside!
A hundred times!
It started scientists and experts from many disciplines “backtracking” in an effort to get at root causes.
Not just of death and debilitating disease. But of allergies, aches and common ailments. Of depression and dysfunction which we all now know affect far more people more seriously than ever imagined.
The resulting research led directly to the place where we spend most of our time. Our sanctuaries; our castles; our homes!
And the root causes turned out to be pollutants so commonplace we don’t even think about them.
Some you can find easily just by following your nose. Solvents and pesticides are in every home. Alcohols and chlorides too. And organic gasses from wood preservatives and plastics. Aerosol sprays, moth repellants and air fresheners. Even dry cleaned clothing can have toxic effects. But the real problem is this: We build tight, energy efficient homes. And more and more, they’re built with advanced, space age materials that exude toxins.
So, in addition to the pollutants that get in from outside, we have a whole host of pollutants that originate inside the house.
And they can’t get out! For a fast idea of the scope and “intimacy” of the problem, here’s an armchair study you can do without calling in a team of EPA experts:
Look around and note how much plywood is in your house. On wall paneling. As sub flooring. In furniture. As sheathing behind shingles and siding materials. In doors and cabinets.
You’re surrounded. And if it’s not plywood, it’s particle board,
wafer board or fiber board. As in shelving, kitchen cabinets, desktops and drawers.
All of it glued together. Often with the classic ingredient in so many glued together products:
formaldehyde.
EVERY LITTLE BIT HURTS.
Even tiny concentrations of formaldehyde out gassing in confined home atmospheres can cause coughing, wheezing, watery burning eyes, nausea, chest tightness, itching, skin rashes and other allergic reactions.
And we don’t even realize it. But next time someone starts in with the sniffles, it may not be the latest Far Eastern Flu!
The solution, of course, is not to tear out all the modern materials in your home... most of us would be left with little more than a foundation and a pile of 2 x 4’s! But to take steps to negate and nullify the effects of the pollutants around us by reducing concentrations of pollutants and your exposure to them.

Heating
and air conditioning professionals are attending
seminars, training technicians to be aware of pollution
pitfalls, learning how to use new technologies and
offering efficient, cost effective remedies. |
Fortunately, it’s easy to do. Experts recommend six proven methods anyone can apply to eliminate up to 90% of the hazardous effects of known household pollutants.
Although many of these techniques were not affordable or even available to homeowners only a few years ago, today professional help is at hand in almost every community.
Alert heating and air conditioning contractors have found themselves no longer concerned with merely achieving comfortable room temperatures, but providing health protection services for your home’s “respiratory system“.
Heating and air conditioning professionals are attending seminars, training technicians to be aware of pollution pitfalls, learning how to use new technologies and offering efficient, cost effective remedies.
GONE IS THE CASUAL ATTITUDE of the past as these firms realize that every single step contributes to the total efficiency of an entire system aimed at achieving a HypoGenic or deeply felt and profoundly suitable atmosphere in your home.
No longer is a tool or even a soda can left in duct work merely a silly oversight, but a major transgression that can lead to the buildup of disease-causing microorganisms that are endlessly recirculated.
This new awareness and emphasis on pollution control brings immediate benefits to homeowners. And to many, those benefits are obvious. You, the homeowner, need suffer no longer.
And most important, many source conditions leading to long term suffering and expensive medical treatment for your family members are eliminated.
You can control your environment! |
